Born in the New South Wales town of Inverell, multidisciplinary artist Phoebe Cook’s practice is a reflection of her eclectic body of life experiences and personal interests. Like her rural contemporaries, Phoebe’s upbringing was not without adversity and hardship, in turn this has influenced her ability to incorporate unconventional materials and ready mades into three dimensional works.
Cook’s passion and involvement in theatre has allowed her to explore her conceptual and theoretical concerns of her fine art practice through inquiries regarding anthropomorphism and the traditional theatre mask. Her recent works have further extended her practice to include video, photographic, sound and ephemeral elements.
